The Ledbury Street Development is vital to the Southwark Council’s long-term efforts to revitalise housing in the Peckham area.
Local residents voted to demolish four existing tower blocks to replace them with high-quality new housing, and LABC Warranty will be responsible for assisting Higgins in delivering the first 80 units of a scheme that will eventually deliver 340 new housing units to the area.
“We’re delighted to have a quality, experienced warranty provider LABC Warranty support us again on this development,” said Higgins Senior Project Co-Ordinator Craig Barnes. “Their proactive, collaborative approach on other developments has shown they’re a capable and valued partner on high-rise projects.”
LABC Warranty has worked with Higgins on a number of previous developments, some of which have been commended by the Merseyside-based structural warranty provider.
In 2023, Project Director Christopher Homewood won LABC Warranty’s 2022 London Site Manager of the Year for his work on Higgin Partnerships’ Boston Road project, and the development was highly commended by LABC Warranty surveyors in the 2022 annual Bricks awards.
“Higgins is a builder that we’re proud to work with,” said LABC Warranty Sales Director Julian Roper. “Their committed, responsible style dovetails perfectly with our Major Projects Service’s work, and we enjoy a prosperous and collaborative relationship whenever we’re on a site together.”
“On top of that, the high quality of the housing we produce together speaks for itself, and we hope to be involved in future projects with Higgins – on the Ledbury Estate and beyond.”
The original tower blocks were highlighted as having serious structural and fire safety issues, and the decision to demolish them was taken in partnership with local residents.
Affordable rent units will be completed before market sale homes are occupied to allow a ‘right to return’ for those living away from the estate during the demolition works.
