Glyn, who has worked in construction for 40 years and mostly on commercial projects, was recognised for his continuing work on an affordable housing development in Mostyn on the North Wales coast.
The award celebrates the skill and commitment it takes to deliver quality in construction, and every year site managers across the country are recognised for their exceptional contribution to home building with regional and national Site Manager Awards from LABC Warranty.
Glyn, who lives near Conwy in North Wales, said: “I’m very proud, and it means a lot, as I’ve never been nominated or won awards before.
“I’ve spent most of my career in the commercial side, so it’s fantastic to be involved in building new homes for people who really need them. It keeps me proud of everything we do in the construction industry!”
LABC Warranty works in partnership with Local Authority Building Control (LABC), providing structural warranties and building control for new-build and newly-converted buildings across England and Wales through a combined network of more than 3,500 surveyors.
Site managers are nominated for the Site Manager Awards by LABC Warranty’s local risk surveyors, in Glyn’s case by LABC Warranty’s North Wales surveyor Gwion Jones.
Covering as many as 3,000 sites a year, surveyors only nominate a small number of site managers from regions across England and Wales, making the award a rare achievement.
Gwion said: “Glyn and his team, sub-contractors and support teams are so committed to this project and it really shows. The structure they have in place on site is excellent and the sense of pride in the quality they are delivering is outstanding, and deserving of an LABC Warranty Site Manager of the Year award.”
Wates Project Director Dan Poole said: “This is wonderful achievement and I am absolutely delighted for Glyn and his team at Mostyn.
“Here at Wates we take great pride in the quality of our work, something that is only achievable thanks to our values and the commitment, passion and professionalism of our construction teams.”
Sarah Sheppard, LABC Warranty Technical Director added: “I am delighted for Glyn and his site team, he is a worthy winner.
“Site managers make an essential contribution to the construction sector despite the challenges posed by labour and materials shortages. The standard of construction across the board has once again been excellent, so it’s a privilege to recognise site managers for their contributions to that.”
